About the role
Due to continued growth, Avove is looking to appoint a Mechanical Engineer to join our expanding Design team.
You will deliver mechanical design across water and wastewater projects as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, supporting schemes from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design for construction. The role includes developing effective solutions for pumping stations, treatment works, mechanical screening, chemical dosing and sludge handling systems, and producing high‑quality mechanical design packages.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Senior and Principal Mechanical Engineers in delivering high‑quality mechanical designs that meet technical standards, programme, budget and quality requirements.
- Develop effective concept and detailed design solutions aligned with project briefs and client needs.
- Deliver mechanical design work across all project stages, from feasibility and preliminary design through to detailed design.
- Prepare engineering designs, calculations, drawings and technical reports, and support tender and bid submissions.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM regulations and the integrated management system.
- Liaise with site teams to resolve technical queries and support construction activities.
- Assist with contract preparation, project planning, programming and project administration, including monitoring resources and delivery.
- Undertake inspections, feasibility studies and surveys as required.
Skills & Experience Required
- Ability to produce detailed mechanical designs for simple process plant.
- Familiarity with pump selection and pump calculation software.
- Developing knowledge of clean water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
- Able to carry out site surveys and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Capable of estimating design effort and contributing to cost planning.
- A proactive team player with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Full UK driving licence required.
