Overview
Shape how the Environment Agency organises itself to deliver the ambitions of EA2030. The Business Planning and Performance team turns strategy into delivery, enabling a customer‑focused approach driven by data, insight and performance. This role leads a series of high‑impact improvement initiatives within the Business Planning and Performance function, initially focusing on organisational design.
Responsibilities
- Lead high‑impact improvement initiatives, initially focusing on organisational design.
- Design future operating models, systems, services and governance arrangements to support strategy and business plans.
- Work closely with core Defra, Defra Finance, policy teams and senior leaders across the Environment Agency.
- Ensure business planning, financial planning and organisational design are tightly aligned to underpin evidence‑based decision making.
- Drive continuous improvement and deliver actionable plans throughout the annual planning cycle.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proactive and delivery‑focused, with a track record of delivering at pace.
- Strong change leader, capable of influencing and inspiring across all levels.
- Systems thinking, with the ability to see the bigger picture and connect the dots.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, clear communication and influencing skills.
- Experience in business planning and performance is helpful, but not essential.
- Leadership experience – confident, strategic, thinking systemically and translating complex challenges into practical, deliverable solutions.
- Experience in organisational design, including Target Operating Models, process mapping, customer journey mapping and senior‑level buy‑in.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; experience of programme or project delivery.
