Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems and machinery
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production equipment
- Install, maintain, and test electrical systems and components
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and manuals
- Carry out emergency breakdown repairs to minimise downtime
- Ensure compliance with UK health and safety regulations (e.g. Electricity at Work Regulations)
- Work with mechanical fitters and other engineers to resolve issues
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance within industrial or manufacturing environments
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of PLC systems (e.g. Siemens, Allen Bradley) is often preferred
- Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Good understanding of health & safety practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
- Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar (e.g. NVQ Level 3)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) – desirable or required
- Apprenticeship in electrical engineering – highly valued
- City & Guilds qualifications or equivalent
Working Conditions
- Typically based in factories, plants, or industrial sites
- May involve shift work, on-call duties, or overtime
- Work may include exposure to noise, machinery, and confined spaces
