Job Description – Teaching Assistant (Reading Area)

We are looking for a proactive and engaging Teaching Assistant to support students within our dedicated reading area. This role focuses on creating a structured, welcoming space where students can develop their reading habits, improve comprehension, and build confidence through regular guided and independent reading activities.

Working alongside teaching staff, you will supervise and support students using the reading area, helping to foster a positive reading culture across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support students in the reading area during scheduled sessions
• Encourage independent reading and help students select appropriate books
• Provide guidance to improve comprehension, vocabulary, and reading fluency
• Maintain an organised, engaging, and well-resourced reading environment
• Assist in managing reading resources, book rotations, and tracking usage
• Support literacy initiatives and promote a love of reading across the school
• Work collaboratively with teachers to support students’ reading development
