We are currently working alongside an excellent large scale multidisciplinary engineering consultancy as they look to bring in either a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer Building Services This organisation are renowned for successful project delivery across multiple sectors including Healthcare, Commercial, Education, Mixed-Use and more. Role
- Lead the mechanical design on a range of complex building services projects across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, residential.
- Oversee and manage mechanical engineering design from concept through to construction stage, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and client requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers, ensuring high-quality output and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Conduct site inspections, surveys, and technical assessments; review installation works and assist with commissioning as needed.
- Manage client relationships, lead design meetings, and communicate technical solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, specifications, schedules, and design risk assessments in line with project and client requirements.
Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (BEng/BSc) in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a recognised institution (e.g. CIBSE, IMechE), or working towards chartership with clear evidence of progress.
- Strong relevant experience in mechanical building services design, including demonstrable leadership on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, heat pump technologies, ventilation, pipework design, energy systems, and associated equipment selection.
- Proven experience managing all stages of mechanical design, from concept through detailed design to construction and commissioning.
- Familiarity with current UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, British Standards, and other relevant codes of practice.
