The Royal Society is seeking an enthusiastic person to join as Programme Coordinator within the People and Planet policy team. The team deals with a wide range of issues including human health, biodiversity and the environment, climate, energy and AI. This position is suitable for an efficient and versatile person with a confident and mature attitude who enjoys project management, event management, has experience of organising people and systems, and forms excellent working relationships with a range of people.

We are seeking someone who can help the Society continue to develop its capacity as a convenor and influencer of leading thinkers across the policy domain. Working alongside policy teams, you will need to plan and deliver events ranging from large scale conferences with leading key-note speakers to small, private round-table discussions involving government representatives and senior figures in industry and academia. The role requires clear communication skills, both written and verbal, including maintaining our online presence. The post holder will be expected to play a significant role in managing budgets and forecasting, providing logistical support, and in developing tools and processes to support delivery across the wider policy team.

Primarily focussed within the People and Planet Team, many of the issues we deal with have clear overlap with work led by the Society’s other major policy themes – education and policy for science. You will be expected to have the versatility and breadth of skills to support work in other programmes as the need arises, and whilst the Society’s policy work is led by the science policy team, we also work closely with colleagues in Communications, Public Affairs, Public Engagement, International Affairs and Industry Programme teams to deliver outcomes.
