WSP’s Liveable Places team is growing, and we’re now seeking an Associate or Principal Engineer to join our Road Safety Team in London. The role is based from WSP's offices at Westferry Circus, Canary Wharf, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in‑office, site and home working.

The role would suit an experienced Road Safety Engineer or Auditor with project management experience, who is looking to make a positive difference within the field of Road Safety. In this role you will be responsible for conducting and coordinating Road Safety Audits as well as leading on Collision Studies, Road Safety Research, Vision Zero Projects and Transport / Urban Design planning projects.

This is a varied role with responsibilities including:

  • Undertaking Road Safety Audits (RSAs) as Team Leader
  • Managing Vision Zero/Road Safety projects which may include analysing collision data, designing road safety schemes, and delivering strategies and action plans based on the Safe System approach.
  • Work winning: Responsible for producing proposals for RSAs, Road Safety / Vision Zero work and other Transport/Urban Planning projects.
  • Preparing and reviewing reports, drawings, schedules and other documents in accordance with local procedures and guidance.
  • Managing project finances, programmes and deliverables.
  • Working in collaboration with clients and other teams at WSP.
  • Supporting a wide range of projects suited to your skills and experience.
  • Work collaboratively with the Liveable Places team, our colleagues in transport and the wider WSP business to achieve our aims and objectives.

Liveable Places work with a wide range of local authority clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place‑making ambitions. We deliver a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery that include public realm, traffic engineering, transport planning, road safety, traffic signals, pedestrian / traffic modelling, active travel, and parking. We have had recent key successes with Gloucestershire County Council, West Sussex County Council, East Sussex County Council, West Berkshire Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, West of England Combined Authorities, Devon County Council, National Highways, Westminster City Council and many, many more.

The Liveable Places team is based in offices across the country with over 200 staff currently making up the team, with further growth planned. What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…

  • Qualified Road Safety Auditor status, in accordance with DMRB GG 119 – with experience leading teams
  • Expert knowledge of Road Safety, how to mitigate issues, and analyse collision data.
  • Experience with Vision Zero and the Safe System approach.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Experience of mentoring and/or line management.
  • Excellent organisational skills and can prioritise workloads and ensure our service levels are maintained.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
