A pioneering clinical research company – recognised as one of the world's most innovative microbiome businesses – is hiring a Senior Computational Biologist with ML Engineering experience to help build something genuinely exciting.

They operate an end-to-end multi-omics platform for skin, scalp, intimate and oral health, working with world-class clients across dermocosmetics, pharma therapeutics, and ingredient manufacturing. Now they're building the AI layer on top of it – a next-generation discovery platform designed to translate their biological datasets into novel functional actives and intelligent ingredient systems.

The Role

You'll own key parts of the end-to-end architecture – from raw data ingestion through to model deployment – working closely with ML and software engineers to ship a platform that's genuinely client-ready. It's a senior role with real technical ownership and the autonomy to match.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Building discovery models that identify novel functional actives from multi-omic datasets, mapping biological signals to clinical outcomes
  • Developing predictive models for molecule-microbe interactions, pathway effects, and clinical response forecasting
  • Implementing multi-objective optimisation frameworks balancing efficacy, safety, manufacturability, and regulatory feasibility
  • Productionising the ML pipeline end-to-end – ingestion, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and governance
  • Collaborating across biology, formulation, clinical, and commercial teams to shape outputs that are genuinely usable

What They're Looking For

  • Strong Python and a proven track record building ML systems end-to-end (shipped projects, tools, or repos – not just research)
  • Hands-on experience with large, messy, real-world datasets and leakage-safe validation strategies
  • Solid grounding in ML evaluation, failure modes, and iteration planning
  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX
  • Clear communication across both technical and scientific audiences

Strongly preferred: experience with biological or high-dimensional datasets (omics, microbiome, clinical), multi-modal learning, and/or biological foundation models.

Cambridge (flexible, can do one day per week, month etc)
