Job Description:

Quantity Surveyor / Estimator (Contractor Background) | Northampton | £50,000 – £70,000 + Package

This is a role for someone who understands how projects are actually built.

Not purely theoretical consultancy work.

Not sat behind spreadsheets removed from delivery.

This is about bringing real contractor experience into a consultancy environment that specialises in one of the most active sectors in the UK right now care homes.

The Opportunity

You’ll be joining a well-established, Northampton-based construction consultancy with a strong reputation in the care and later living sector.

They’ve delivered hundreds of projects over the past 15+ years, working with some of the most recognised care providers in the UK.

This is a business built on:

  • Long-term client relationships
  • Sector specialism (care homes, later living, residential)
  • High-quality delivery across the full project lifecycle

They’re now looking to strengthen their commercial capability with someone who brings a contractor mindset.

The Role

This is a QS / Estimating position, sitting between pre-construction and delivery.

You’ll be involved in:

  • Preparing cost plans and estimates for care home developments
  • Reviewing contractor pricing and tender returns
  • Providing cost advice from early feasibility through to delivery
  • Supporting procurement and contractor engagement
  • Working closely with developers, operators, and project teams
  • Bringing practical buildability insight into cost decisions
  • This isn’t just measurement and reporting it’s about influencing outcomes.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Clear sector specialism – care homes & later living
  • Strong, repeat client base with ongoing pipeline
  • Close-knit, experienced team (no layers of bureaucracy)
  • Genuine influence on projects from day one
  • Northampton office with a strong regional presence

About You

You’ll likely come from a main contractor or developer background and be looking to step into (or continue within) a consultancy environment.

Key experience:

  • Quantity Surveying or Estimating background
  • Experience delivering or pricing care home projects (essential)
  • Strong understanding of build costs, procurement, and delivery
  • Comfortable working across both pre-con and live projects
  • Commercially aware with a practical, solutions-led mindset

This role suits someone who:

  • Wants to use their real-world site knowledge in a more advisory capacity
  • Enjoys being close to clients and influencing decisions early
  • Prefers a specialist consultancy over a large corporate structure
