The role

Based in Manchester, you will join and help lead our growing Professional Risks team, working on a broad range of insured and uninsured matters including:

  • Professional liability, public liability and property damage claims
  • Significant coverage advice
  • Claims ranging from small matters to multi‑million‑pound disputes
  • A strong emphasis on construction professionals, alongside other regulated and professional sectors

You’ll act as both a day‑to‑day case lead and a supervisor and mentor, while playing a visible role in:

  • Team leadership and development
  • Business development and relationship management
  • Strategic planning and service expansion
  • Supporting Markel Law’s advice line, hub content and wider profile

What we’re looking for

We’re keen to speak with senior lawyers who can demonstrate:

  • Significant experience defending liability claims, ideally within a construction or built‑environment context
  • Strong expertise in policy coverage advice
  • Technical excellence combined with commercial, pragmatic judgement
  • A proven ability to build relationships with insurers, brokers and internal partners
  • Confidence in business development and contributing to sustainable growth
  • Experience supervising and developing other lawyers
  • A sound understanding of the legal‑insurance interface
