We are looking for an experienced midwife to lead our Governance and compliance team.

The post-holder is a key member of the Maternity Team and integral to governance, risk and compliance. The post holder will support the Divisional General Manager, Director of Midwifery and Clinical Lead, to effectively deliver and provide evidence‑based assurance that all requirements of risk management and regulatory compliance are being implemented effectively and sustainably.

The role involves undertaking SI and moderate harm investigations, and monitoring of the action plans arising from them. You will be confident at presenting these reports, and others, at a variety of senior committees, including PMRT, HSIB, LMNS, and, on occasion, the Trust Board.

You will effectively manage the risk register, undertaking risk assessments and gap analyses as needed.

You will be an active participant in the maternity training group, ensuring all learning is fit for purpose, adapted to respond to service needs and/or national reporting requirements.

Main duties of the job

Our service needs a motivated and inspirational individual to join the Governance Team as a Band 8B to help lead the service forward. The expectation is that you will already be working at an advanced level, with a wide range of clinical skills and can support junior staff whilst ensuring quality care provision to women. You will be able to communicate with all staff groups, have a strong ethos around delivering high standards of care and be willing to take part in the managerial and leadership activities at a Band 8B level.

The most recent National Maternity Survey rated Kingston in the top five best performing maternity services within London. The Care Quality Commission rated Kingston Hospital's Maternity Service as Good in 2022 and the Trust as "outstanding" in 2019, with staff positive about the hospital and the services they were able to offer women and their families.

The service is established to a Birthrate+ recommended ratio of midwives to women of 1:22.3 enabling high‑quality midwifery‑focused care to be provided.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

• NMC Registered Midwife and Educated to Master's level or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
• Recognised qualifications in quality assurance, compliance and governance, along with a recognised leadership/management qualification.

Experience

• Extensive midwifery clinical experience with demonstrable knowledge, alongside experience in patient safety, risk management processes, SI investigations, and shared learning.
• Experience in a leadership/management role within a large or complex healthcare organisation, including developing and implementing service-wide strategies, policies, and procedures.
• Experience in NHS regulatory compliance, clinical effectiveness, and audit procedures.
• Experience of analysing and interpreting information from multiple sources to manage variances in performance and identify solutions to deliver improvement.

Skills

• Demonstrate strong leadership, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to motivate and engage individuals and teams to deliver compliance objectives aligned with organisational operational and strategic goals.

Knowledge

• Broad understanding of the NHS and key policy issues affecting business performance and the policy framework within which NHS services operate, along with substantial knowledge of CQC compliance.
• Demonstrable understanding of quality improvement and benchmarking and implementing improvements in practice.
