Job Title: Depot Manager

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 DOE

Hours: Monday‑to‑Friday, 07:00 – 17:00

The Role

We are seeking an individual to oversee the operational, financial, and compliance functions of the depot, implementing systems and procedures to improve efficiency and overall performance. The role includes leading and supporting staff, providing training and coaching, full responsibility for the Exeter O’Licence ownership and compliance, and driving profitability through business development and strengthening existing client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily collection and delivery operations, ensuring KPIs and service levels are consistently achieved
  • Manage depot financial performance, including P&L, cost control, and forecasting
  • Lead and develop operational teams, ensuring effective resource planning and performance management
  • Drive operational efficiency by improving processes, communication, and working practices
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure service delivery meets agreed SLAs
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, legal, and company policies
  • Monitor fleet maintenance, tachographs, and compliance reporting
  • Support senior management with reporting, contingency planning, and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven management experience within the logistics sector, with strong knowledge of network distribution
  • Solid understanding of Health & Safety and compliance standards
  • IT literate, with experience using operational systems
  • Strong organisational, planning, and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Customer‑focused, with a commitment to high service standards
  • Excellent people management and development skills
  • Strong communication and influencing abilities
  • High attention to detail and procedural awareness
  • Good geographical knowledge of the South West
