Job Description:
Senior Traffic Engineer
An excellent opportunity for a Senior Traffic Engineer to play a key role in delivering complex highways and transport schemes. You will provide technical leadership, oversee project delivery, and act as a senior point of contact across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of traffic and highways projects to time and budget
- Provide expert technical advice across transport planning, TROs, and local engineering schemes
- Oversee consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure quality and compliance
- Represent the service in project boards, stakeholder meetings, and public consultations
- Support programme delivery, including financial forecasting and reporting
- Contribute to policy development, technical standards, and best practice guidance
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight across the team
- Deputise for management where required and support wider service objectives
Requirements
- Proven experience in traffic engineering / highways design and delivery
- Strong working knowledge of TRO processes, local transport schemes, and UK standards
- Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, including elected members and the public
- Skilled in providing technical reports, advice, and evidence where required
- Relevant degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, or similar
- Chartered or working towards (desirable)
