Tesco’s Scan As You Shop solution is an in‑store experience that lets customers build a virtual basket on a handheld device during their shopping journey so that they can keep a close eye on their budget and skip the queues at checkout. Since late 2021, we’ve brought the solution entirely in house, and we’re now live in over 800 stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, with plans to move into Central Europe this year.
The engineering team owns the UI applications (built on Android OS), a small backend service, and a few other technology components that support the solution. The engineers in the team ultimately take ownership of both the frontend and backend systems within the domain.
We’re looking for a new team member, preferably with a background in Android development, that can help us evolve and scale our systems as we navigate a wide range of challenges in the context of store technology.
