Reporting into the Logistics Network Manager, the primary focus of the role is to manage the Central Logistics Operational Team and its activities – ‘Transport Planning and Network Deployment’ – while being a point of escalation for multiple network stakeholders and 3PLs. A strong focus on Customer Service and Continuous Improvement is required to support the UK Logistics Service Level of ≥ 98.5%.
This is a people management role with 2 direct reports. It requires strong leadership and decision‑making skills, the ability to motivate and develop your team, and the capacity to succeed in a challenging yet rewarding logistics function.
The role holder will be accountable for daily Logistics Service Investigations, explaining to senior managers the logs incurred and root causes, and recommending and implementing corrective actions. The individual will model a continuous‑improvement culture of root‑cause analysis, ensuring permanent solutions, and identifying opportunities for efficient network operation. The role also requires multi‑skill coverage of managerial, administrative and operational duties for the broader Logistics team, including covering direct reports’ annual leave. Some weekend working may be required on an ad‑hoc basis.
Key Contributions
- Report on service and spend focus areas to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the Deployment Transport budget, VU and associated spend vs. service decisions, including effective route planning/optimization of Transdeck Vehicles.
- Conduct daily Service Investigations to identify cross‑functional solutions and drive process or system improvements, achieving and exceeding service and cost targets.
- Provide operational cover for the Distribution Services & Network Manager and other Logistics team members (Admin, Inventory Management, direct reports).
- Lead, coach and develop direct reports, ensuring compliance with all OPM elements and focusing on succession planning.
Primary Accountabilities
- Lead the Central logistics operational team of 2‑3, responsible for Transport and Secondary Network Deployment planning tasks, ensuring audit compliance, daily completion and effective network operation with a focus on spend and service.
- Ensure successful planning and delivery of over 85,000 customer orders annually.
- Build collaborative relationships with multiple network stakeholders (CC/E2E Fulfillment/Demand/HUB/LCC/3PLs).
- Use business tools and order forecasts to manage capacity over the next 72 hrs, making best‑for‑business decisions that balance spend and service.
- Facilitate and host the daily Network Review, encouraging open dialogue, driving clear actions and ensuring resolutions.
- Lead a continuous‑improvement culture of root‑cause analysis, resolving issues permanently and identifying operational efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Distribution Services & Network Manager and Inventory Specialist to achieve cost‑effective solutions and maintain budgeted operations.
- Account for ‘ROE’ and ‘Spot’ transport tender processes, ensuring optimal decisions based on lowest cost and highest service.
- Represent UK Logistics Operations in local daily service meetings, presenting root‑cause analysis for Log Ops errors and driving corrective actions.
- Ensure comprehensive seven‑day operational cover for the core Central Logistics Department, providing annual leave cover and supervision as needed.
- Serve as Subject‑Matter Expert for the Business Transport Management System, maintaining master data, mapping tables, flat transport order files and event logs.
- Uphold ethical and legal compliance responsibilities, raising concerns when necessary and applying integrity in professional conduct.
Required Experience and Knowledge
- SAP Order process / SAP Process Management.
- Previous experience in an FMCG environment, ideally some front‑line operations (Logistics Operations, Customer Service, Planning, AR).
- Understanding of DRP.
- Knowledge of commercial aspects of transport operations & 3PL relationships (preferred).
- INET experience (preferred).
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word and Power‑Point.
- Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with sound technical knowledge.
- Leadership, motivation and team management.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and aptitude for data interpretation.
- Ability to organize workload, meet deadlines, and set priorities.
- Action‑oriented, results‑driven, perseverant through challenges.
- Conflict management, personal maturity and tact.
