The Role
This role involves working with GPs and the primary care multidisciplinary teams to improve medicines management and deliver excellent patient care. You will be part of the NHS GGC primary care pharmacy team, working closely with GPs, practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff and other healthcare professionals to promote high‑quality, safe, cost‑effective, rational and evidence‑based prescribing. You will be a patient‑facing prescriber, developing your own clinical caseload and providing individualised clinical care through clinics. Applicants should be qualified independent prescribers or be prepared to work towards this qualification.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- There are 2 permanent, full‑time posts of 36 hours per week available.
- The posts are based at Blair Court, 100 Brown Street, Glasgow, G4 9XE.
- The shift pattern is Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pharmaceutical care for identified patient caseloads, using independent prescribing and clinical judgement to analyse complex patient information and make optimal clinical decisions.
- Give specialist advice to medical staff and the multidisciplinary team on optimal drug regimens, avoidance of adverse drug reactions, drug interactions and contraindications, ensuring compliance with medicines legislation.
- Report and review adverse clinical incidents, identify causes of medication errors and advise on strategies to minimise medicine use risks.
- Review prescribing patterns, negotiate changes in practice and contribute to management of change to promote rational and cost‑effective prescribing and improve achievement of local and national prescribing indicators.
- Support implementation of the NHSGGC formulary and associated processes, promote use and monitor compliance.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
- Minimum requirements:
- Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Independent prescriber or working towards qualification.
- Completed Post‑Registration Foundation or equivalent experience.
