This client is now looking for a Senior Designer for Glazing to work out of their fantastic Portsmouth office. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of glazing design on high quality and technically challenging projects. You’ll be the go‑to technical expert, liaising across internal and external teams and consultants to make sure that designs are buildable and compliant, as well as commercially sound.
Responsibilities
- Lead glazing design packages from early concept through to construction.
- Review employer’s requirements and technical specs, flagging risks and opportunities.
- Coordinate closely with estimating, procurement, and commercial teams.
- Own and deliver drawings, schedules, and specifications on time and to a high standard.
- Act as the main technical contact for clients, architects, main contractors, and regulators.
- Review and manage subcontractor and supplier design submissions.
- Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, CWCT standards, NHBC guidance, and related codes.
- Support testing strategies (air, water, fire, etc.).
- Embed health & safety, CDM, sustainability, and fire safety into designs.
- Work closely with manufacturing and site teams to resolve design queries and ensure smooth delivery.
Role Requirements
- At least 5 years’ experience in glazing design.
- Strong background in curtain walling, windows, doors, unitised façades, and interfaces with cladding systems.
- Solid knowledge of CWCT standards, building regulations, and façade performance.
- Confident using AutoCAD and glazing software such as SchüCal, LogiKal, or Techdesign.
- Comfortable working with Word and Excel.
Desirable Extras
- Experience with sustainability standards like BREEAM or LEED.
- A degree in Architecture, Engineering, Façade Engineering, or a similar field.
About you
- Confident technical lead who enjoys coordinating people and information.
- Clear communicator with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset.
- Organised and detail‑driven, able to juggle multiple projects at once.
- Commercially aware, understanding how design decisions impact cost and programme.
- Fully bought into health, safety, and environmental best practice.
