Landis+Gyr EMEA, formerly part of the Landis+Gyr Group, supports electricity, gas, waterand thermal utilities in managing increasingly complex networks, improving operational efficiency and enabling more sustainable use of resources.

With more than 2.800 employees in 19 countries and decades of experience in critical infrastructure technology, the company provides advanced metering, network intelligence and digital solutions to utilities and infrastructure operators primarily across Europe, Middle East and Africa. As a standalone organisation, Landis+Gyr EMEA builds long‑standing customer relationships and proven technology capabilities, backed by experienced regional teams.

About the Role

Why This Role Is Important

As a Gas Metering Architect, you will play a critical role in ensuring that Landis+Gyr’s products can be confidently deployed across multiple international markets. Your expertise directly enables safe, compliant, and timely product launches which support the energy transition and the modernization of utility infrastructure.

You will be trusted as a subject‑matter expert, influencing design decisions early in development and shaping certification strategies for complex, safety‑critical products used by utilities across EMEA. The role covers both maintenance of existing products and development of new products.

With Landis+Gyr’s EMEA business preparing to become an independent organisation by mid‑2026, this role offers a rare opportunity to help shape compliance frameworks, processes, and ways of working during a period of transformation. You will have real influence on how regulatory and certification activities are embedded into the future organisation, while benefiting from the stability, scale, and standards of a global leader during the transition.

Role Overview

The Gas Metering Architect will work closely with the EMEA‑based Product Development teams as part of a cross‑functional team responsible for ensuring that UK, IRL and EU gas metering products comply with all relevant directives, regulations, and standards. The role involves decomposition of market and product requirements into technically detailed work packages and items for the development teams to implement, technically supporting the teams with implementation matters, plus active participation in change control activities to ensure ongoing compliance and product integrity.

Purpose of the Role

To develop, maintain, and evolve high‑accuracy gas metering end‑to‑end solutions, ensuring long‑term measurement stability, regulatory compliance, and readiness for next‑generation materials and smart metering platforms. The role contributes to both sustaining existing product lines and enabling future designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the UK‑based Solutions Architects, Gas Metering Metrology Specialist, Product and Project Management, and Development Engineers to plan and execute the development of UK gas meter products against applicable requirements, directives, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Definition of new product development, from early concept through validation and industrialisation, into delivery.
  • Participate as a member of the Change Control Board, reviewing proposed product, process, or design changes.
  • Advise where required that all changes discussed and approved through change control are supported by appropriate levels of testing.
  • Review where required that test results associated with changes are complete, accurate, and sufficient to demonstrate continued compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with multi‑disciplined engineering, quality, and compliance teams to support timely approvals and certifications, preparing material where necessary to support these activities.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, reports, and design justification for internal and external stakeholders.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in supporting product approval, compliance, certification, or testing within a regulated engineering environment (gas, utilities, metering, or similar preferred).
  • Ability to interpret technical standards, directives, and regulatory requirements.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity during early‑stage technology development.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess test results and identify issues or trends.
  • Experience participating in or supporting change control processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to documentation.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Long‑term perspective on product lifetime, reliability, and compliance.
  • Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics, or other related field.
  • Strong experience with embedded firmware development in smart metering or other metrology‑critical systems.
  • Understanding of:
    • Sensor physics (at a functional level)
    • Digital signal processing
    • Experience working in regulated environments where firmware impacts legal metrology.
    • Ability to work across disciplines and translate requirements into robust firmware solutions.
  • Familiarity of working full product designs and developments within Azure DevOps

We value and encourage diversity in our team. This position is open to all qualified candidates regardless of gender, race, age, disability, sexual orientation, or background. We're committed to shaping a better future for everyone. #EnergizeYourCareer and join us on our journey towards a greener tomorrow.
