- Salary: Discussed per job, pro‑rata basis on rate per appliance and number of tests.
Job Description
As a PAT Engineer you will be responsible for the portable appliance testing of a wide range of electrical equipment, from hospitals to retail outlets. Your duties include:
- Conducting electrical safety tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles, televisions and computers.
- Interpreting test results, issuing completion certificates and advising users on safety findings.
- Recording findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or an electronic system.
- Maintaining test equipment, ensuring it is calibrated annually and compliant with regulations.
- Planning and organising sites, travelling to jobs independently or as part of a team.
- Providing consistent, accurate and efficient service to maintain workplace safety.
Typical Day
A typical day involves packing your toolbox, travelling to the first site, performing tests, recording results and delivering reports. You will be on the move throughout the day, visiting a variety of locations and working both alone and with other engineers.
Qualifications & Requirements
You must (i) hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, (ii) possess reliable transport, (iii) maintain testing instruments and related tools in good working order, (iv) own public liability insurance, and (v) demonstrate a reliable, honest and “can‑do” attitude.
