Production Process Engineer / Process Improvement Engineer – Near Coleshill, Birmingham
Salary: to cGBP50k depending on experience. They are continuing a strategic growth program for 2026 and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Develop, improve and sustain manufacturing processes across cutting, pressing, tin plating and assembly operations with a focus on improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Drive Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, reduce scrap, improve throughput and ensure robust operator training standards.
- Take a lead role in the specification, procurement, installation and commissioning of new automated machinery and production line layouts.
- Drive improvements in OEE across all manufacturing processes and analyse/manufacture cycle times to increase throughput.
- Lead scrap reduction initiatives using structured problem‑solving methodologies and identify/eliminate causes of downtime across cutting, pressing, plating and assembly operations.
- Develop and sustain CI initiatives aligned with company strategy.
- Support quality improvement through process control, root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions.
- Design, develop and optimise manufacturing layouts to improve flow, safety and efficiency; lead procurement activities for new automated machinery including specification development, supplier selection, technical evaluation, installation and commissioning.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process documentation; ensure robust operator training plans are developed, implemented and sustained.
- Utilise data‑driven methodologies to diagnose problems, collect and analyse data, implement solutions and sustain improvements.
Requirements / Qualifications
- At least 3 years’ experience in a Production / Process Engineering role within a manufacturing environment; proven experience in a metal processing environment (cutting, pressing, plating, assembly preferred).
- Qualified to at least HNC level or above in a relevant Manufacturing or Production Engineering discipline.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office suite and experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
- Experience with 3D CAD and CAM (CREO Parametric preferred) and AutoCAD for layout design.
- Experience supporting automation projects and capital equipment procurement.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or similar CI methodologies; knowledge of OEE improvement tools and structured problem‑solving techniques (e.g., 8D, DMAIC) is advantageous.
