Job Title: Maintenance Engineer – Night Shift
Location: Central Manchester, UK (On-site role)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Shift pattern: 6pm-6am, 4 days per week – may include weekend shifts.
Salary & Benefits:
- Base salary: £45,000/£46,000 per annum
- Pension: Auto-enrolled with NEST

Role Summary
We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support our manufacturing operations in Manchester. You’ll ensure production machinery is maintained, repaired, and running efficiently to minimise downtime across a busy baking and packaging operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on bakery production machinery including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines
- Rapidly respond to and resolve machinery breakdowns and faults
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and apply effective solutions
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance work and updates in compliance with food safety standards
- Support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and operational efficiency
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety and hygiene protocols
- Collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams during handovers and day-to-day operations
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-skilled Engineering
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment
- Strong fault-finding skills and hands-on ability in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance
- Understanding of health, safety and food hygiene standards
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively during shifts
Desirable:
- Experience working with bakery or FMCG production equipment
- Familiarity with PLC-controlled machinery and pneumatic/hydraulic systems
- Experience with CMMS systems or digital maintenance reporting tools
