Maintenance and Design Engineer
Location: Birmingham (On-site)
Contract: Temp-to-Perm (Urgent Requirement)
The Role
We are looking for a Maintenance and Design Engineer to join our team in a unique hybrid role that combines hands‑on maintenance engineering with mechanical, electrical, and design activities. This position is vital for maintaining operational uptime across machinery and facilities while developing engineered solutions to support business needs.
You will report to the Director of Customer Experience, offering a role filled with variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to work across prototyping and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & fault-finding: maintain machinery, tooling, and equipment availability. Diagnose root causes and troubleshoot mechanical systems under time pressure.
- Preventative & site maintenance: carry out scheduled inspections, calibrations, and basic site maintenance (plumbing, heating, electrics) to minimise downtime.
- Design & development: interpret requirements to develop 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings, including sheet‑metal components and prototypes.
- Electrical design: produce basic electrical schematics, wiring solutions, and PCB layouts while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Data & documentation: use SolidWorks 2026 and TurboCAD 2022 to manage parts, revisions, and BOMs within an ERP system.
About You
Essential Criteria
- 18th Edition (BS 7671) Wiring Regulations.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting experience.
- Hands‑on experience with lathes, milling machines, and CNC machines.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 2026 and TurboCAD 2022.
- Experience creating complex 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Desirable Criteria
- HND/HNC, degree, or level 3‑6 apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with HVAC, hydraulics, and pneumatic.
- Experience using PDM/PLM systems for BOM and change control.
