Transport / Operations Manager
Location: Orpington
Salary: 45/50k
Reports to: Managing Director
We are seeking an experienced Transport / Operations Manager to join our senior management team. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost‑effective distribution of goods to our customers.
You will play a central role in managing transport operations and lead the team to deliver a high‑quality, customer‑focused service. You must have experience of managing a fleet of 15/20 vehicles across South / South East / East England.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee fleet compliance, ensuring adherence to all relevant legislation (including O Licence and FORS requirements)
- Lead and manage transport operations to ensure timely and cost‑effective delivery of goods
- Lead, motivate, and develop teams to deliver excellent service
- Monitor and continuously improve operational performance across depots
- Investigate and resolve operational challenges quickly and effectively
- Work closely with depot managers and internal teams to meet customer expectations
- Use IT systems and data to drive efficiency and continuous improvement
- Prepare regular performance reports for senior leadership
- Ensure high standards of health & safety are maintained at all times
About You
- Proven experience in transport and operations management
- Strong understanding of fleet compliance and UK transport regulations (O Licence /FORS essential)
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Highly organised with strong problem‑solving abilities
- Commercially aware with a focus on cost control and efficiency
- Confident communicator, able to build strong working relationships
- Experience managing multi‑site or depot operations is desirable
