Project Quality Engineer – 12 Month Contract Inside IR35 – Based in Stafford

Location: Stafford

Contract: 12 months Inside IR35

Rate: Negotiable, dependent on experience

Project: Onshore HVDC EPC Project

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Quality Engineer to support the delivery of a major onshore HVDC transmission project under an EPC framework. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that all project phases—from engineering through to commissioning—meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Quality Plan, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and project-specific quality procedures in line with EPC contractual requirements
  • Oversee quality assurance and control across converter stations, HV equipment, civil works, mechanical installations, and HVDC control & protection systems
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, EPC standards, and relevant IEC/EN regulations
  • Conduct audits of suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to quality standards across manufacturing and site activities
  • Lead the Non‑Conformance Report (NCR) process, including investigation, root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, and closure
  • Establish and manage a structured Lessons Learned programme, embedding insights into current and future project phases
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), inspections, and commissioning activities, ensuring full documentation and traceability
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to embed quality throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor and report on quality KPIs, trends, and risks, driving continuous improvement across the EPC delivery chain

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in quality engineering within large, complex, and safety-critical projects
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, EPC quality frameworks, and HVDC-related IEC standards (preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in NCR management, root cause analysis, and supplier/subcontractor quality oversight
  • Experience implementing Lessons Learned processes and driving continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across contractor and client organisations
