The Role
As a Security Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and improving security controls across cloud, endpoint, network, and operational environments. You will work closely with Technology, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to enhance detection capabilities, automate security processes, and reduce organisational risk.
This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who enjoys solving complex security challenges and building scalable, modern security capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations & Detection Engineering
- Engineer, maintain, and optimise SIEM platforms and associated detection capabilities
- Onboard log sources and build scalable log pipelines across multiple environments
- Create, tune, and improve detection rules and use cases to identify threats quickly
- Support incident triage, investigations, and response activities
- Build SOAR-style workflows to improve response speed, consistency, and efficiency
Cloud Security
- Implement and enhance security controls across AWS and Azure environments
- Review cloud configurations for security risks, misconfigurations, and compliance gaps
- Strengthen identity, logging, monitoring, and access controls across cloud platforms
- Support secure adoption of cloud services under shared responsibility models
Endpoint & Identity Security
- Administer and optimise EDR tooling across the enterprise environment
- Support deployment, tuning, and technical investigations involving endpoint platforms
- Strengthen IAM controls including privileged access and conditional access policies
- Partner with teams to improve identity security posture
Automation & Engineering
- Develop scripts using Python and/or PowerShell to reduce manual effort
- Build and maintain integrations using APIs, connectors, and webhooks
- Support infrastructure as code and configuration management initiatives
- Continuously identify opportunities to automate repetitive security tasks
Risk & Governance
- Support vulnerability management processes and remediation programmes
- Work closely with Technology teams to prioritise and reduce risk exposure
- Ensure security controls align to recognised standards, frameworks, and best practice
- Contribute to security improvement initiatives during business transformation
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in a hands-on Security Engineering role
- Strong experience securing AWS and Azure cloud environments
- Experience with SIEM platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel, Elastic, Splunk, or similar
- Strong knowledge of detection engineering, alert tuning, and log management
- Experience with SOAR or security automation tooling
- Scripting skills in Python and/or PowerShell
- Experience with EDR, endpoint security, and identity controls
- Good knowledge of networking, firewalls, WAF, and traffic analysis
- Experience supporting vulnerability remediation programmes
- Understanding of security standards and control frameworks
