The opportunity

Our client is a fast-growing clean technology company at a pivotal stage of growth — first full-scale product installation complete, multiple commercial projects underway, and global deployment on the horizon.

They're looking for a Performance Engineer to own the end-to-end data and insight pipeline across their operational fleet. You'll design how data flows from onboard systems through to internal engineering tools and customer-facing reporting — ensuring performance is captured accurately and translated into meaningful insight.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering and commercial decision-making: building pipelines, developing dashboards, and closing the loop between real-world fleet operation and product development.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain data pipelines from onboard systems through to engineering tools and customer reporting
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Translate complex datasets into clear conclusions that drive engineering improvements and reliability decisions
  • Support validated performance claims through rigorous analysis
  • Collaborate with engineering, software and commercial teams to continuously improve how data is structured, automated and applied
  • Play a central role in the feedback loop between real-world fleet operation and product development

What we're looking for

You may currently be working as a Performance Engineer, Data Engineer, Marine Performance Analyst, Industrial Data Engineer, Fleet Performance Engineer or similar. Your background should include:

  • Degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture, Data Science, Physics or a related technical discipline
  • Solid experience working with real-world engineering or industrial data
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and processing workflows
  • Strong analytical capability — interpreting complex datasets and communicating clear insight
  • Experience developing dashboards or reporting tools for mixed audiences
  • Exposure to data from physical systems: sensors, telemetry or industrial equipment

Advantageous: experience in marine, energy or industrial environments; reliability analysis or performance modelling; familiarity with scalable or cloud-based data systems.

What's on offer

  • Salary up to £65,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working — 3 days onsite in Southampton
  • Private healthcare
  • Genuine ownership of the performance data function at a defining stage of company growth
