The treasurer will support the Trustees by ensuring that complete and accurate financial records are maintained and relevant returns submitted in compliance with statutory requirements of the SBKA Constitution, the Charity Commission and HMRC. They will also make sure that our financial procedures comply with statutory requirements, that we are compliant with GDPR and manage the charity’s banking arrangements. Financial records of income and expenditure for SBKA are maintained using Quickbooks software. For annual statutory reporting the results of the Oswestry Beekeeping Association are consolidated with those of SBKA. Oswestry maintain their own bank and accounting records.
As well as income from c.250 member subscriptions, we have income from our shop selling beekeeping supplies, training courses, visitor donations, and grants. In the last year we have successfully applied for or been given grants exceeding £60k which are used to improve the facilities and access to the site.
Shropshire Beekeepers Association is a registered charity and is the largest of four Associations in Shropshire, based at the Conduit Head Apiary, Nobold Lane, Shrewsbury. We have a 99 year lease on the one hectare site and associated buildings, a Community Asset Transfer from Shropshire Council. As well as being our training apiary, the site is a visitor centre which is open to the public on Wednesday & Saturday mornings as part of our lease agreement because the site has historical significance, being the water supply for Shrewsbury from Tudor times until 1947. In 2024 the Association was given the Kings Award for Voluntary Service.
