Assistant Headteacher – Abersychan School
Salary: L11 – L15
Responsibilities
Lead wellbeing and safeguarding for the school, acting as the Designated Safeguarding Person with strong knowledge and experience in safeguarding.
Lead school improvement initiatives, working closely with the Headteacher to utilise Estyn inspection recommendations: address safeguarding issues, strengthen leadership processes, improve teaching effectiveness, improve attendance, and enhance curriculum development.
Flexible working hours, staying late for safeguarding disclosures as necessary.
Adapt the role over time to meet school priorities, support succession planning, and contribute to a culture of reflection and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements
Must have experience and strong knowledge in safeguarding; the successful candidate will become the Designated Safeguarding Person. Registration with the Education Workforce Council is required.
Welsh Language Skills are desirable but not essential; applications can be submitted in English or Welsh.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Comprehensive screening will include an enhanced DBS check.
