Salary and Benefits

Base salary: £46,406 per annum to c£54,595 per annum depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer a flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits – check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

About The Role

  • Responsible for providing technical assurance, as per the HS2 assurance requirements, through production, checking and submission of assurance evidence for technical stage gates.
  • Assure that the design and construction of assets comply with the technical and sponsor requirements and applicable standards, specifications and procedures by supporting planned Technical Assurance Reviews and “spot‑checks” of Contractor’s deliverables.
  • Accountable for supporting the Head of Engineering and Environment in discharging duties of NEC3 Supervisor and Principal Designer Representative as mandated within the Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2015.
  • Communicate the HS2 Engineering requirements to the IPT contractor and provide responses to technical queries.
  • Provide guidance on design solutions for the asset, promote use of best practice and innovative engineering techniques, technologies and processes, drive consistency and identify opportunities for efficiencies within the IPT.
  • Work alongside other technical specialists to develop appropriate and cost‑balanced mitigation strategies and solutions, contributing to successful system integration.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

Skills

  • Complex problem solving – Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Includes the management and planning of multiple workstreams and competing demands of stakeholders.
  • Decision making – Able to gather and synthesize information, identify options and apply sound judgement based on logic and reason, using analytical approaches to provide relevant information to suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Technical leadership – Specialist technical support and leadership in at least one discipline‑specific scientific, technical or engineering principle, while knowing when to seek further guidance from a subject matter expert.
  • Technical communication – Able to communicate a range of technical ideas in at least one discipline‑specific area to colleagues, based on a mix of training and examples of application.
  • Information management – Able to apply principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modeling and data security, basic understanding of data creation and visualization, working under supervision of line manager or in liaison with relevant subject matter expert.
  • Review drawings, specifications, Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s) and conduct on‑site surveillance.

Knowledge

  • Applicable UK construction regulations including CDM requirements.
  • Understanding of the regulatory/legislative framework relevant to HS2.
  • Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements.
  • Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or working towards one with equivalent experience.
  • NEC 3: ECC Supervisor Accreditation.
  • Understanding of construction quality management systems and assurance processes, including change and non‑conformance management.
  • Knowledge of CDM2015 (UK Construction).

Experience

  • Experience in managing standards, engineering and safety activity on any engineering projects/programmes.
  • Experience managing competing project and engineering demands, with cost and schedule implications on any engineering projects/programmes.
  • Experience in either the NEC Supervisor role, Clerk of Works or Resident Engineer on an equivalent large project within the civil engineering sector.
