£70k-£80k + Equity
Company Description
Synthetic fuel startup decarbonising heavy industry with the UK’s largest modular DAC and electrolyser plant
Job Description
You will lead the development of high-fidelity process models to optimize a vertically integrated synthetic fuel system. By building simulations of Direct Air Capture and Sabatier reactors, you will act as the "puppet master" directing physical resources and identifying performance ceilings before they impact the 1000x scale-up mission.
Location
London, UK
Why this role is remarkable
- Direct impact on planetary-scale decarbonisation by making synthetic fuels cheaper than fossil fuels through modular engineering.
- Massive growth trajectory following the deployment of the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant with plans to 1000x scale in 24 months.
- High-stakes technical ownership with early-team share options and a unique £6,000 annual subsidy to live near the South London HQ.
What You Will Do
- Develop and refine first-principles process models for lime-based Direct Air Capture, integrating complex thermodynamics and reaction kinetics.
- Perform dynamic process simulations and mass transfer calculations to inform the design and operation of modular industrial plants.
- Build and maintain custom simulation tools in Python or MATLAB to support critical techno-economic and performance assessments.
The Ideal Candidate
- 3–7 years of experience in process modelling or chemical engineering R&D with a Master’s or PhD in a related field.
- Proven expertise in simulation software such as MATLAB, Aspen Plus, COMSOL, or Python-based physical modelling.
- Strong background in heat transfer and reaction engineering, specifically regarding solid-gas systems like calcination and carbonation.
