Apprentice Security Systems Engineer

Overview
As an Apprentice Security Systems Engineer, you will work in the field and on-site to learn how to install, maintain, and support various security systems that keep buildings and people secure.
Responsibilities
- Installing and configuring security systems such as CCTV, intruder alarms, and access control systems (including card readers and biometric devices)
- Running and terminating cabling, reading technical drawings, and ensuring installations meet industry standards (e.g. NSI/SSAIB)
- Testing and commissioning systems, diagnosing faults, and carrying out routine maintenance and repairs
- Supporting emergency call-outs and helping to restore systems quickly and safely
- Working closely with clients, understanding their needs, and demonstrating system use
- Keeping accurate records of work, including system configurations, fault reports, and compliance documentation
- Operating in line with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) standards
Apprenticeship Details
Complete the Level 3 Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Technician Apprenticeship delivered by Skills4Security.
- Training is delivered via block release
- Travel and accommodation are fully covered by Mitie
- You will receive a mix of classroom learning and hands‑on practical training
- Full support from both the training provider and Mitie’s dedicated Apprenticeship Team
The programme typically runs for 36 months, providing the knowledge, skills, and qualifications to become a fully qualified Security Systems Engineer.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Keen interest in the chosen field
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities
- Dedication to completing the apprenticeship and growing with Mitie
- GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades 4-9 or equivalent) or Scottish National 5 certificates (Grade A-C). Certificates must be provided at the interview stage
No prior experience required. Enthusiasm and willingness to learn are essential.
