Role Overview

Senior Design Manager with Kier Construction in Leeds. Remote working available with occasional office travel.

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility. No sponsorship certificates available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage design teams through tender and preconstruction stages, ensuring on‑programme delivery and high standards.
  • Coordinate design consultants and monitor performance, addressing concerns to maintain quality and compliance.
  • Chair design meetings, produce progress reports, present updates to senior leadership.
  • Create and manage design programmes, responsibility matrices, and documentation for smooth project operation.
  • Identify and mitigate design‑related risks and provide strategic expertise on innovative construction solutions.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture, ideally with chartership or additional accreditation.
  • Experience managing design on tenders and live projects within a main contractor environment, especially on complex, high‑value schemes.
  • Knowledge of BIM Level 2, current building regulations, and design principles across all disciplines.
  • Confidence in producing presentations and leading meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of building contracts (NEC, JCT, SBCC) and their impact on design management approaches.
  • Transferable skills are welcomed – not all boxes must be ticked.
