Lead EC&I Engineer (Design) – Contract (Inside IR35)

Location: Warrington (Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days remote)Rate: £55.00 – £60.00 per hour (Umbrella)Hours: 40 hours per weekDuration: 12 months +

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead EC&I Engineer to support the delivery of complex design work across major nuclear projects. This is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing EC&I design activities, ensuring technical quality, and guiding a multidisciplinary team within a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage EC&I design activities across nuclear projects from concept through to detailed design
  • Provide technical authority and guidance to engineering teams
  • Review and approve design documentation, including calculations, specifications, and drawings
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements
  • Interface with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Support project planning, resource allocation, and progress reporting
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in EC&I design within the nuclear or highly regulated sectors
  • Proven experience in a lead or senior engineering role
  • Strong understanding of relevant standards (e.g. IEC, BS, ONR requirements)
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical documentation
  • Ability to lead teams and manage multiple project deliverables
  • Degree-qualified in Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered status or working towards (preferred)
