Responsibilities
- Real‑time control and integrity of a local distribution zone with the SGN Distribution Network ensuring system safety and security.
- Respond to local and national gas supply emergencies on a 365‑day, 24/7 basis following a Forward Continental Shift rota pattern.
- Champion a culture of safety, ensuring all activities within the Gas Control Centre meet SGN’s highest operational and service standards.
- Perform daily system monitoring and control, alarm management, incident response, and escalation procedures.
- Interact with SGN operational staff and external agencies daily.
- Forecast gas demand, manage offtake flows, and send flow notifications within commercial and physical limits.
- Continuously review operating strategies to ensure safety and process improvement.
- Maintain specified target pressures and line‑pack stocks, operating offtakes at minimum cost.
Qualifications & Required Skills
- Analytical approach with understanding of the UK gas industry; commitment to safety and service standards.
- Knowledge of IT systems and applications, specifically SCADA, advantageous.
- Initiative to work within tight timescales and to make accurate decisions without direct referral to manager.
- Good organisational, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills; ability to forecast demand, manage physical plant, and authorise complex operations.
- Team worker with effective communication skills with employees and customers at all levels.
- Proven experience ensuring accurate, consistent, and timely recording of operational information, logs and communications across different applications.
- Flexibility to work varied roles within Gas Control; effective written and verbal communication with colleagues, managers and external parties.
- Commitment to SGN values; ability to deliver targets while operating within safety golden rules.
- Live within one‑hour travel distance from our Horley office (BCM requirement).
- Full valid driving licence.
