The main purpose of the role is to process intelligence reports, employ effective decision making by interpreting and applying local guidelines and national practice in accordance with APP (Authorised Professional Practice). To oversee and co‑ordinate on‑going learning support to those engaged in submitting and processing intelligence.
To effectively assess and evaluate intelligence reports (including secure intelligence), incoming emails and requests, prioritising in accordance with approved professional practice (APP), providing grounds for rejecting/returning intelligence reports, supporting decision with a sound rationale.
Identify threat, risk of harm and opportunity for interventions, and to elevate intelligence to the appropriate person promptly for further action which includes support to operations and live‑time operational activities.
Interrogate a range of systems to aid decision making through effective research, including to verify and cross‑reference validity of information to identify and communicate links between different pieces of information. Identify and disseminate intelligence/information in line with policing purpose and national standards, to support ongoing operations and aid with achievement of forces policing objectives.
Stay up‑to‑date with current intelligence strategies, including the process of sanitising, linking, flagging, ensuring the quality of data, disseminating intelligence effectively, embedding an appropriate security ethos in the day‑to‑day processing and management of intelligence.
To coach submitting officers and new in‑post intelligence support officers by identifying efficient and effective practice, supporting the learning of others, thereby improving Intelligence Support Officer – October 2022 2 intelligence outcomes.
Adhere to all relevant legal frameworks, key working principles, policies and guidance including Data Protection Act, Management of Police Information and National Decision Model.
Collection, assimilation and presentation of performance information including quality assurance checks on intelligence processed.
To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.
