Graduate Quantity Surveyor – Freedom Professional Services (Design)

Responsibilities
- Work under the guidance of an experienced Surveyor or Commercial Manager to assist in implementing best commercial practices throughout all project phases – from tender preparation to completion and final account settlement.
- Support the delivery of improved commercial and financial performance across assigned projects.
- Provide commercial input to administrative and operational functions, including assisting with quotations, measurements, and work approvals to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Key Deliverables
- Health & Safety – comply with the company’s Health & Safety standards ensuring that the safety‑first message is visible and alive throughout all work activities.
- Risk Management – review contract terms and conditions to identify specific risks and opportunities for Freedom; assist with agreed mitigation and enhancement.
- Financial Management – liaise with the Project team and assist with the preparation of payment applications with appropriate substantiation of contract works and variations; ensure cash is received by Freedom in accordance with the contract; assist with Cost‑Value Reconciliations, manage supply‑chain costs and measurement of works on site.
- Subcontract Management – assist with the negotiation, production and administration of subcontract agreements, including payment notice procedures, reviewing potential changes and final account processes.
- Contract Administration – review and understand Freedom’s contractual obligations; assist with the production of a commercial plan and monitoring compliance; follow procedures for client work approval; commercial and administrative involvement with Works Management System and other IT software; involvement with PQQ and tender submissions; produce quotations and pre‑estimates.
- Record Keeping – assist in the production and maintenance of all necessary records to maximise Freedom’s contractual entitlements and justify our position; follow procedures for client work approval.
- Cost and Value Forecasting – assist with monitoring and forecasting of cost and revenue throughout the project/programme lifecycle; assist with production and distribution of accurate internal project reports such as Major Project Reviews, CVR files, Risk and Opportunity Registers; value completed works in line with contractual mechanisms (e.g., SOR, Defined Cost); assist in the creation and monitoring of cash‑flow forecasts to keep the Project/Programme cash‑positive.
- Final Account Settlement – assist the project team with the preparation of Freedom’s final account with the customer and the review of supply‑chain final accounts; include any substantiation required to improve commercial or financial performance; conduct post‑audit of works.
- Change Management – understand contract change‑management procedures and assist with the identification and quantification of changes to Freedom’s contractual obligations, both upstream with the customer and downstream with the supply chain.
- Stakeholder Relations – maintain positive relationships with the project customer(s) through efficient delivery of objectives, with a view to optimising future opportunities; effective communication with various levels of personnel on the framework, both internal and external.
- Develop your professional network to support your role and development.
- Build positive relationships with internal and external customers as required.
- Identify and drive improvements where possible.
- Keep a log of your activities and learning within each business area, feeding into your development to ensure each new rotation can be effectively tailored to meet your individual needs.
- You will be responsible for managing your career and working towards professional accreditation.
- At the end of the graduate scheme, you will be able to deliver effective services, ensuring that activities within your control are managed to time and budget, delivered safely, profitably and to client requirements.
Essential Requirements
- 2.2 or above in a Commercial‑Related Degree
