About the role

Are you looking for a position where you can make a real difference locally within Cambridgeshire?

Are you passionate about improving local services at Cambridgeshire County Council?

Cambridgeshire County Council is on an ambitious journey to embed a culture where evidence and insight drive the decisions that improve services and change lives. We’re looking for a Senior Analyst to play a pivotal role in delivering that vision.

We are embarking on a major shift in how we manage, use and understand data across the Children’s, Education and Families Directorate to make evidence‑based decisions. Several high‑profile programmes including Inclusion for All, Best Start in Life and Families First depend on robust data and insight to deliver improvements, track benefits and meet national grant reporting requirements. This new Senior Analyst role will lead a coordinated approach to data development across the directorate: mapping and improving existing datasets and building sustainable insight models. The role will help create consistent, reliable reporting that supports operational decision‑making, financial planning and improved outcomes for children and families.

The role will sit within Cambridgeshire County Council’s newly formed Policy, Performance & Intelligence Team. A team of 50 individuals who provide data, analysis insight and policy expertise to support the operational management and strategic planning of services.

We are a family-friendly employer and will be happy to negotiate on working arrangements to achieve a good work / life balance. The role is currently available on a 2 year fixed term basis with the option of flexibility from full-time to a minimum 30 hours per week, with a provision for home working.

Please refer to the person specification when completing your supporting statement, as applications will be shortlisted against the required experience, knowledge, and skills of the role.

For more information or an informal discussion, please contact Rachel Hallam, Head of Policy, Performance & Intelligence, at Rachel.Hallam@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or Andrew Mailer, Performance and Intelligence Manager (Children’s, Education and Families) at Andrew.Mailer@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.

About you

Are you ambitious, innovative, good with data and passionate with an enthusiasm for supporting evidence led decision making.  If so, we may have the role you’ve been searching for!

We are looking for an individual with:

  • Strong skills in data analysis and someone who can practically apply those skills to embed new data solutions.
  • Experience of leading projects and supporting others, as well as excellent organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of local government datasets, statutory reporting, and inspection requirements.
  • The ability to translate complex data into compelling stories for decision-makers.

Good communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for this role, as the post holder will be required to present complex and sometimes technical information in appropriate forms for a wide range of internal and external audiences.

A high level of competence with Power BI, data analysis, and specialist data analytical software are also desirable. The successful applicant will be well supported to further develop their subject knowledge and technical skillset.
