This role exists to deliberately capture that value by embedding AI across software platforms, engineering workflows, manufacturing operations, and product architectures – driving improved margins, faster delivery, and sustained long‑term competitiveness.

The successful candidate will lead the industrialisation of AI, moving beyond experimentation to make it a core operating capability embedded into how the organisation designs, builds, and delivers automation solutions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Define and own the AI technology strategy across software platforms, PLC‑based controls, manufacturing, and product development
  • Identify, prioritise, and execute high‑impact AI use cases aligned to business performance, scalability, risk reduction, and delivery efficiency
  • Leverage leading foundation models (e.g. Claude, GPT‑based models, or equivalent) to accelerate software engineering, controls development, and R&D workflows
  • Champion AI‑assisted development approaches, including rapid prototyping and “vibe‑coding” practices, while maintaining robust industrial governance, safety, and quality standards
  • Embed AI capabilities into core platforms, products, and operational processes rather than standalone proofs of concept
  • Provide senior technical leadership and assurance to executive stakeholders on AI adoption, risk management, and return on investment

What You Bring

  • Senior technology leadership experience (e.g. CIO or equivalent) within industrial automation, manufacturing, or complex engineered systems
  • Deep understanding of industrial software, PLC‑based control environments, and manufacturing operations
  • Hands‑on experience applying AI and large language models in real engineering or production contexts
  • Proven experience introducing AI‑assisted development practices at enterprise scale
  • Strong commercial judgement, able to balance innovation with delivery risk, safety, and long‑term platform value
  • Credibility and communication skills to influence boards, executives, and senior engineering leadership

Why This Role Matters

This is a rare opportunity to shape how AI is industrialised within a real-world automation environment – not as a side initiative, but as a foundational capability. The role will directly influence technology direction, delivery performance, and competitive differentiation through the organisation’s next phase of growth.
