Post Summary and Specialty

This post is for a full‑time Consultant Psychiatrist working with the Diagnostic Memory Service working closely with Older Adult Mental Health Team based at Red Oak Lodge, Leyton, E114HU. This is a replacement post of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with a ratio of 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) to 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). The purpose of this job description is to outline the level of responsibility and accountability of this post. This will ensure that all work undertaken by our staff is clearly identified and carried out under clear lines of accountability. The expectation of the post holder will be to support their team, department and organisation to follow the Trust’s Values in their day‑to‑day work.

Rationale for Post

This is a well‑established post and is becoming vacant because the previous postholder has moved some of their clinical sessions to the Trust’s Chief Clinical Information Officer post. Waltham Forest Memory Service has undertaken significant service transformation and continues to develop, with a focus on improving timely access, clinical quality, and patient flow. We wish to recruit substantively to this post as soon as possible.

Post Details

This is a replacement, substantive, full‑time post of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), comprising 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). The postholder will provide senior medical leadership and specialist input across the Diagnostic Memory pathway, supporting high‑quality assessment, formulation, diagnosis, and treatment planning in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. This post focuses not only on dementia detection but also optimises outcomes for those who are newly diagnosed with dementia and, where appropriate, reducing dementia risk. In addition the postholder will support both local and national initiatives. This includes, but not limited to, standards set by MSNAP/RCPsych, national guidance and local population needs. The post includes medical assessment, treatment planning and, where clinically indicated, prescribing and medication review in line with national and local guidance, with appropriate physical health monitoring, outcome measurement, and risk management. The postholder will work within a well‑supported multidisciplinary team with access to a range of evidence‑based interventions.
