Lead Research Nurse

The Lead Research Nurse plays a pivotal role in delivering RSFT's 5-year RD& I Strategy and advancing the Trust's Clinical Strategy. This post leads and manages a multidisciplinary research delivery team across Oncology, Radiotherapy, Access & Medicine, Women’s & Children, Surgery, Diagnostics, clinical support services, and the expanding Community research portfolio. The role provides clinical leadership to Band 7 research team leaders, drives research growth across divisions, and supports Trust-wide clinical research training.

Working closely with the Research Matron and RD& I Senior Leadership Team, the post supports strategic development, cross-site collaboration with ASPH, and expansion of commercial and non-commercial research. The aim is to strengthen research culture, improve patient outcomes, and enhance staff development across the organisation.

The Lead Research Nurse oversees Band 7 team leaders and ensures effective delivery of the Trust's research portfolio. The role works with PIs, commercial partners, divisional research leads, SERRDN specialty leads and multidisciplinary teams across RSFT and ASPH to support smooth study delivery, operational performance and staff development. Responsibilities include leading the research delivery workforce, supporting funding and commercial opportunities, and monitoring research activity across all specialties.

The post holder applies expert knowledge of interventional and non-interventional trials and research governance to expand the Trust's portfolio. The role identifies opportunities for innovation, supports income delivery, and enhances research quality. Clinically, the post holder leads training and development for research nurses, CRPs and AHPs, and contributes to Trust-wide research education alongside the Research Matron.
