Some roles are about building QA from scratch. Others are about taking a QA function that works, and driving it towards the next stage of evolution. We’re working with a global publishing business that has already built a solid set of digital platforms used across international markets. The engineering team is established, delivery is active, and QA is already embedded in the process. But like a lot of teams at this stage, testing is still weighted towards manual execution. There’s a capable QA in place, multiple projects running, and a clear intent to move towards a more automation-led approach. That shift has started, but it hasn’t fully landed. Alongside that, the team are beginning to work more closely with AI-driven systems and automation tools. That introduces a different kind of testing challenge, one that isn’t fully defined yet and needs someone to take ownership of it. The opportunity here is to build on what’s already in place, introduce more structure, and drive how QA evolves across both traditional systems and newer technologies.
A working platform with real usage — giving you something to improve, not build from zero
Clear shift towards automation — Playwright already identified as the direction; giving you the chance to implement it properly
New testing challenges emerging — increasing use of AI and automated workflows, creating problems that have not been fully solved yet
Ownership without heavy hierarchy — one QA in place with strong foundations, giving you the space to lead and shape how QA operates
Support to avoid getting stuck in BAU — offshore resource handling execution where needed, allowing you to focus on direction and improvement
Take ownership of QA across the team.
Drive the move from manual-heavy testing to a more automated approach.
Introduce structure and prioritisation across multiple projects.
Work closely with engineering and delivery to improve how QA fits into the lifecycle.
Support and develop an existing QA with around three years’ experience.
Explore and define how newer systems and workflows should be tested.
Experience working with Playwright, Selenium, or similar automation frameworks.
Senior/Lead with strong hands-on capability alongside the ability to set direction.
Experience working in an environment that has transitioned from manual towards automated testing, ideally with some involvement in that shift.
Comfort working across multiple projects in a delivery-focused environment.
Confidence to challenge and drive change where needed.
Interest in how newer technologies are changing testing, even if you’re still figuring it out.
