Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Hampshire, UK (Hybrid)
£55‑65k + benefits (flexible)
This is an exciting opportunity to join a company that is advancing sustainable engineering technology within the marine industry. As a senior mechanical design engineer you will be part of a small team involved with developing cutting‑edge marine propulsion systems aimed at reducing fuel consumption and cutting emissions. Key Skills and Qualifications
- A master’s degree in mechanical engineering, marine engineering, or a similar field
- Demonstrable experience of taking designs through concept to full production (DFM / DFA)
- Good experience with the design of large steel (ideally heavy gauge) structures
- Experience with dynamic systems (motor‑controlled or hydraulic‑powered systems)
- Experience with high‑end CAD systems (NX, Inventor, Catia, etc.)
- Experience with large steel structures typical to the marine or ship‑building environment, or other relevant experience such as construction machinery, heavy‑lifting equipment, subsea equipment, marine robotics/UUVs, wind turbines, or static machinery/capital equipment
- Willingness to travel occasionally for product trials, installation, and commissioning
- Experience with structural analysis, FEA, and/or hand calculations (steel or composites) – beneficial
- Experience working directly with marine classification societies (DNV, LR, ABS, etc.) – beneficial
- Mandarin skills – beneficial
Location and Working Arrangements
The role will be based in Southampton, Hampshire, and the company offers hybrid working (minimum 3 days in the office). People located in and around Southampton, Basingstoke, Fareham, Portsmouth, Guildford, Farnborough, etc., could potentially make this work.
Relocation and work visa support could be available for the right person.
