Job Description:

An established, specialist technology consultancy, renowned for providing high-level technical consultancy and complex hardware/software implementation services to government and commercial partners, is seeking a talented Hardware & Embedded Systems Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • FPGA Engineering: Simulating and implementing sophisticated signal, image, or data processing algorithms using VHDL for FPGA platforms.
  • PCB Design: Developing complex PCBs incorporating FPGAs, SoCs, high-speed network interfaces, and analogue/RF signal filtering.
  • Schematic & Layou Management: Performing schematic capture (utilising tools such as OrCAD) and managing the full lifecycle of PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly via subcontractors.
  • Hardware Integration: Setting to work new hardware, including the development of test firmware and software.
  • Driver Development: Writing and optimising Linux device drivers to interface with custom hardware solutions.

Candidate Profile

  • Academic Excellence: The client requires a high-performing undergraduate degree (1st or 2.1) or a PhD in a highly numerate discipline (e.g., Electronic Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science).
  • Strong Foundations: Applicants must demonstrate a consistent academic track record, typically including exceptional results in Mathematics and Physics at the A-level (or equivalent).
  • Technical Specialisation: Candidates must possess demonstrable knowledge in at least one of the following domains:
    • FPGA development using VHDL.
    • PCB design and layout.
    • Embedded software development in C/C++.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written presentation skills are required to interface effectively with both internal teams and external clients.
  • Autonomy: The ideal candidate is a self‑motivated professional who thrives when working independently and is eager to solve complex technical problems.
