Location : Cambridge, UK

Company Overview

A leading global semiconductor company specialising in high-speed analog and mixed-signal IC solutions for data communication and networking markets.

The engineering team is internationally distributed and focused on developing cutting‑edge technologies including transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) and laser drivers, enabling high-speed connectivity across datacentres, 5G infrastructure, and fibre‑optic networks.

Role Overview

The company is looking for a highly experienced Principal Analog IC Design Engineer to lead the design and development of high-speed analog ICs from concept through to volume production.

This is a key technical leadership role, driving circuit innovation, owning critical subsystems, and ensuring high-performance, silicon‑proved designs in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design of high-speed analog ICs, ensuring delivery against performance, quality, and timelines
  • Take ownership of critical chip subsystems and provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams
  • Drive innovation in circuit architecture, improving performance, efficiency, and scalability
  • Collaborate closely with product definition, verification, test, reliability, and product engineering teams
  • Support silicon bring-up, validation, and transition to production
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to team development and knowledge sharing
  • Present complex technical concepts to internal stakeholders and senior management

Requirements

  • Several years’ experience in analog IC design within the semiconductor industry
  • Strong expertise in CMOS / BiCMOS analog design
  • Proven experience leading chip development projects
  • Strong RF analog design experience (10 GHz and above)
  • Proficiency with Cadence design and simulation tools
  • Solid understanding of analog/RF layout considerations (parasitics, matching, ESD, crosstalk, IR drop)
  • Demonstrated innovation and problem‑solving capability
  • Strong communication skills in English

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing at 25 GHz+
  • Background in laser drivers (LDs) and/or transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs)
  • Knowledge of high-frequency components (T-coils, inductors, 3D modelling)
  • Experience with RF lab validation and measurement techniques
  • Understanding of DFM, reliability, and yield optimisation
  • Experience with behavioural modelling (Verilog-AMS / SystemVerilog)
  • Familiarity with optoelectronic components (PIN diodes, lasers, MZMs)
  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc or similar)

Salary & Package

Competitive and aligned with principal-level technical expertise
