About the role
Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Senior Methods Engineer to join our growing central Methods Engineering Team within the Technical Services Department. This role will support major and complex infrastructure projects across the transport and energy sectors, providing expert construction methodology input through bid, pre‑construction and early delivery stages.
The Role
As a Senior Methods Engineer, you will lead the development of optimised construction solutions for projects valued between £25m and £1bn+. Working collaboratively with project teams, designers and the supply chain, you will shape construction methodology, sequencing, logistics and temporary works strategies to drive safe, efficient and low‑carbon delivery.
The role offers flexibility on location, with travel required to support projects as needed.
What you’ll be doing
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of construction methodologies aligned with design development
- Produce method‑led construction sequencing, logistics strategies and temporary works concepts
- Integrate permanent works design with temporary works and construction planning
- Develop cost, carbon and programme options for construction solutions
- Support risk identification and mitigation planning
- Champion modern methods of construction and digital/BIM tools
- Collaborate across multiple projects and disciplines at bid and pre‑construction stage
- Capture lessons learnt and contribute to continuous improvement
- Support and mentor engineers within the Methods Engineering team
Who we’re looking for
You’ll be joining a newly formed and expanding central Methods Engineering team, with clear opportunities for professional development, exposure to flagship UK infrastructure projects, and the chance to influence how major projects are planned and delivered.
- Proven experience on complex or major infrastructure projects, ideally at Sub Agent / Site Agent level or equivalent
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, temporary works and logistics
- Experience working across multiple projects in pre‑construction or early delivery
- Confident working with digital models and method‑led construction approaches
- Knowledge of planning, resourcing and safe systems of work (including CDM)
- Experience with modern methods of construction
- Strong communication, collaboration and leadership skills
- Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable
