About Us

Buzzacott is a passionately independent and growing professional services firm. We are based in the City of London, with a satellite office in Hong Kong. We are partner‑led and focused on people – our team and our clients. We combine market‑leading sector expertise with excellent service capability to provide exceptional service in our chosen markets.

Team Overview

Our US/UK Tax team is one of the leading independent specialists in expatriate tax and one of the largest US/UK tax departments in the market. Our team of approximately 75 people help US and UK citizens and businesses based away from home to manage their net earnings and reduce liabilities. Consisting of dual-qualified US/UK tax experts, 14 partners and strong administration support, our team know both tax systems inside out and have handled relocations for solo workers, and up to hundreds of employees. On the other side of the world, our Hong Kong team looks after US and UK nationals living across Southeast Asia.

This placement role is due to commence in August 2026.

The Role

As a Year in Industry Placement Student, you will work with the US/UK Tax team’s clients under the supervision of more senior team members. You will act principally as a preparer of US and UK tax returns, assisting with tax compliance, supporting advisory projects, and helping to identify opportunities for further services. This is a practical, learning‑focused role. You will learn on the job, gaining real‑world experience working alongside tax specialists. You will not sit professional exams during your placement year, but you will build the foundational skills and knowledge that could support a future training contract should you choose to pursue a career in tax or accountancy. Training will include structured on‑the‑job learning, internal workshops, and support from managers, senior colleagues and our Learning & Development team.

What’s In It For You

We go above and beyond for our clients, but also for you. Your development matters to us, and you will be given the guidance and support needed to make the most of your placement year.

  • A manager acting as your mentor
  • A trainee buddy
  • Senior staff and partners
  • Our dedicated Learning & Development team

You will gain exposure to real client work, build professional skills and experience life within a leading tax team.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Act principally as a preparer of US and UK tax returns.
  • Organise the collection of data for the timely completion of compliance work and be responsible for ensuring that filing deadlines are adhered to on each assignment.
  • Assist with ad hoc advice requested by clients, consulting with managers and directors where necessary.
  • Liaise with your manager in connection with monitoring the management of your workload to include: accountability for chargeable and non-chargeable hours and projected billing.

What We’re Looking For

  • Working towards a 2:1 degree, with your first year achieved.
  • 120 UCAS tariff points from 3 A-levels, or equivalent.
  • Level 6 (B grade using the old system) in GCSE Maths and English Language, or equivalent.
  • Competence with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • The right to work in the UK without restrictions for the duration of the placement.

Please note we do not accept General Studies.

What You’ll Bring

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally with colleagues and clients.
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and a willingness to take initiative.
  • A problem‑solving mindset and eagerness to learn.
  • Sound ethical judgement and professionalism.

Why Buzzacott?

We’re big enough to offer deep expertise across a wide range of specialisms, but small enough to value meaningful personal connections — with clients and colleagues alike. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who will support your development while you contribute to the success of both our clients and our team.

We’re committed to equal opportunities. All employment decisions are fair, objective and based on merit.
