Specialty Doctor Grade in Community Paediatrics

The Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor Grade Community Paediatrician.

The post holder will be based in the Erewash or Amber Valley area of Derbyshire. As part of the community paediatric team they will provide community child health services in clinics (and other venues when appropriate). This work will include the following:

  • Seeing children and young people referred for assessment of child development, neurodevelopmental conditions and physical disability
  • Providing paediatric links with school nurses to local schools, nurseries and social services’ children’s establishments within the locality.
  • Liaising with other disciplines and agencies on individual case management and the preparation of reports

The post holder will join a friendly and supportive team of nine Consultants, seven Specialty Doctor Grade/Associate Specialist doctors and two trainees in community paediatrics.

Involvement in child protection work on a rota basis during working hours is part of the role but there will be no acute on-call or out of hours work. Basic training in community paediatrics, including Safeguarding, is available as required so candidates with no more than the essential requirements in the person specification are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities

The post-holder will have a main base and will carry out clinics in several localities and be accountable to the supervising consultant.

  • Provide generic community child health services in clinics (and other venues when appropriate).
  • Seeing children and their families referred for further assessment of complex problems including child development, social, neurodevelopmental and educational paediatrics.
  • Provide paediatric linkage via public health nurses to local schools, nurseries and social services’ children’s establishments within the locality.
  • Liaise with other disciplines and agencies on case management and the preparation of reports.
  • Participate in a rota system for assessing children referred by social care services under child protection procedures.
  • One session per week of protected time will be included within the job plan, and a consultant is always available for support.
  • No out of hours commitment although it may sometimes extend into early evening.

Person Specification

  • GMC registration
  • Experience in paediatrics
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Experience of working in child protection
