This post is to augment the department and help shape the future of Restorative Dentistry across Somerset and the surrounding counties. We will expect the successful candidate to provide a general Restorative Dentistry service with subspecialty interest to suit the needs of the department (Head and Neck Cancer and/or Hypodontia). The agreed post is up to 10 programmed activities but less than 10 may be acceptable for the right candidate.
Musgrove Park is an award winning, progressive and ambitious District General Hospital, the largest in Somerset, providing acute and community services to over 340,000 people, with an outstanding reputation for the provision of a comprehensive range of medical, surgical and specialist services. A 20m Oncology Centre opened in May 2009 and a new state of the art, all single room Surgical Block opened in 2013. The Trust achieved Foundation status in December 2007. A new surgical block for operating and ITU is opening in 2026.
The outpatient Restorative Dentistry department at Musgrove Park Hospital sits alongside Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics. It includes five brand new dental chairs with additional clinic space in the department. The combined services have excellent and experienced nurses. The service embraces digital technology and has its own Cone Beam CT scanner, three intra-oral scanners and digital implant planning software. There are laboratory contracts with excellent commercial laboratories but also an onsite laboratory available. We hold Devon based clinics 2 days per month in Exeter to facilitate treatment of the Devon based patients and have a close link with Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Head and Neck MDT.
The service provides specialist Restorative Dentistry services for the Somerset and Devon ICBs. The department has a large focus on head and neck cancer, and consultants attend the weekly Head and Neck MDT. When required there is scope for joint theatre cases with the maxillofacial team for example, for zygomatic implants.
