We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Research & Innovation Laboratory Team at York Teaching Hospital.
We are an experienced team with dedicated research specific laboratory staff, currently consisting of one Associate Practitioner who, under the supervision of the Biochemistry Manager, offers laboratory assistance to a range of research studies across York and Scarborough Hospitals.
Please note: the main work base for the post holder will be at York Hospital, with expectations to be able to travel and work at Scarborough Hospital as required. The standard working hours to cover will be between 08:00am and 6:00pm, Monday - Friday, and some weekends may be required.
You will work under the line management of the Commercial Research Manager.
This role is available for an immediate start.
Main duties of the job
- Support clinical trials which require careful administration, adherence to research protocols and laboratory manuals and are subject to external inspections.
- Assist in the assessment of capacity and capability to deliver laboratory support for new research projects.
- Provide efficient, high quality and flexible laboratory service in support of various clinical research projects.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Formal or vocational lab-based qualification e.g. IBMS Certificate of achievement part 1 or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a science subject.
- Sound general education‑ideally GCSE grades A‑C or equivalent in Maths and English.
- Willingness to attend relevant courses and undertake specialist training as required.
- Understanding of laboratory workflow and analytical processes.
Experience
- Previous experience of working within a clinical laboratory environment.
- Experience in supporting delivery of clinical research projects.
- Experience of supervision and training of other staff.
