Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner (Cheshire East)
The post holder will be part of a multi‑disciplinary team delivering Perinatal Mental and Infant Mental Health Services to an identified caseload of women. The core purpose of the team is to provide high‑quality, tailored interventions in maternal mental health and attachment‑based approaches to mothers and infants, supporting expectant and newly delivered mothers across universal and specialist services.
Supported by comprehensive training in perinatal mental health and a robust supervision model, this role offers flexible working options (full‑time, part‑time and condensed hours).
Responsibilities
- Manage a defined caseload of women with moderate to severe mental health difficulties in the perinatal period.
- Conduct initial assessments for women referred to the perinatal service.
- Act as the duty practitioner on a rota basis.
- Participate in MDT meetings to formulate effective plans and interventions.
- Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, women/birthing people, families, carers and statutory or voluntary sector agencies.
- Liaise with other professionals to coordinate care.
- Promote equality of access, focusing on diversity and hard‑to‑reach groups.
- Plan and coordinate own workload in collaboration with the needs of women, families, and the wider service.
Qualifications
- Diploma/degree level education and registration with an appropriate professional body (e.g., Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Registered General Nurse).
- Postgraduate qualification relevant to the specialism.
Knowledge and Expertise
- Specialist knowledge in perinatal mental health or willingness to undertake training.
- Specialist knowledge in attachment and infant mental health or willingness to undertake training.
- Understanding of the NSF and Mental Health Act/Mental Health Capacity Act requirements.
- Knowledge of the CPA process.
- Ability to produce well‑written reports.
- Excellent communication skills with a wide range of professionals.
- Strong problem‑solving and proactive approach to solutions.

Experience
- Experience delivering mental health training and education to non‑mental health professionals.
- Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency environment.
- Substantial experience managing a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health problems.
- Experience working within a community mental health setting in either the statutory or voluntary sector.
Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 per year (pro‑rata).
